In Florida, net metering was established by the State Legislature in 2008 along with rules implemented by the Public Service Commission. Florida’s net metering policies currently allow rooftop solar customers to receive full, fair retail credit from their utility for the excess energy they produce and send along to the electricity grid. This move has the potential to trigger rulemaking at the Florida PSC that could upend net-metering laws that Florida rooftop solar owners currently benefit from.
A utility front group, Energy Fairness, published a report and State Representative Lawrence McClure surfaced it to the PSC. On September 17, 2020, the Public Service Commission will be holding a workshop to discuss customer-owned renewable generation.
We must raise our voices and take action to protect net-metering and ensure Florida’s robust solar market continues to grow and provide economic and public health benefits to all Floridians.
